The seating area of Retro is relatively small, but makes good use of the space as there seem to be a lot of tables. I came on a week day and there was only one other occupied table besides ours during our stay. The place is actually a bit darker than what it seems like in the image above, and sort of has a feel and look between TGI Fridays and B+F.
An irritating thing about the menu at Retro is that it is printed on dark glossy paper which is extremely hard to read. After squinting my eyes for a few minutes it turned out that the menu of Retro offers food similar to B+F, but with a fewer number of burgers. Retro serves a number of starters, burgers, sliders, pizzas, pastas, sandwiches and salads.
For the starter we ordered the Atomic Fries (RO 2.650) which had hot cheddar, beef, beans and jalapenos. The dish came way too hot, especially the cheese, and we could barely eat it at the start. The recipe used it actually nice, but we had to eat really slow to ensure that we do not burn our tongues, but then the mains came before we managed to finish half of it so we just moved on to the mains and did not finish the starter.
For the main I ordered a Sherry California burger (RO 2.750) which had a beef patty with avacado, jalapeno, onion, and cheddar cheese. I thought the size was perfect, it had a home-made feel to it, and I thought it was nice. I sort of assumed that the burgers would not have fries on the side as we all are kind of used to it from B+F and GBK, but here they actually come with the burger. We told the waiter about our main course choices before we asked for the Atomic Fries, I think a little bit more sophisticated waiter would have actually told usnot order fries of the starter when our mains came with some.
For the dessert we went for a Lava (RO 2.350) cake which was a simple lava cake with ice cream on the side. It took a bit of time to arrive, but it was nice and delicious.
I also had a Strawberry Sin mocktail (RO 1.850) which had strawberry juice and syrup, kiwi, and pineapple. I really had very little expectations about the juice, but I was surprised at how good it turned out to be!
In total we ordered 1 starter, 2 mains, 2 drinks , and a dessert. Our bill came to RO 13.900.
I thought the service was good, our food came quickly and as ordered and the waiters seemed to be friendly and asked how we found the food throughout the meal and they were not annoying.
One thing I really liked about Retro is that their menu mentions only the full and final price of each item with all the taxes included, so you know exactly how much money you are going to pay. I wish all restaurants would just do this!
I think that overall I had a good experience at Retro, the food and service were both good though not necessarily mind blowing.
