Lokanta – Shatti Al Qurum

Lokanta - Shatti Al Qurum

Lokanta (Telephone: 22009598 – Map) is an upscale Turkish restaurant located in Shatti Al Qurum near My Cupcake and Royal China in the Qurum Gardens compound.

Lokanta is very spacious and has a cosy seating area that extends over two floors, the upper sort of dedicated to bigger parties and families. I went to Lokanta for lunch on a Friday and the place was very quiet with few other tables occupied.

The menu of Lokanta offers cold and hot starters, baked items, kebabs and other grills, seafood dishes, and casseroles. The menu is pretty long and extensive, and it can be a difficult task to select an item to eat if you are new to Turkish cuisine. For the starter we decided to try something new so we went for a Sicak Hummus (RO 2.500) which is hummus cooked in the oven with cheese, I thought that it was nice, though a bit too watery, but I guess that’s how the dish is meant to be prepared, the bread was OK, but nothing that can compete against that of the Turkish House.

For the main course we had a Sarma Tavuk Kebap (pictured above- RO 6.000), a plate of chicken kebab seasoned with sumac, pomegrate and mint wrapped in bread, I really enjoyed this dish, the chicken was light and full of flavor and the bread was slightly crunchy. We also had Izgara Balik (RO 6.000) which was a plate of the grilled catch of the day, our fish was hamoor and it was tender and delicious.

For the dessert we had a Cevizli Kadayif (RO 2.000) – a Kunafa pastry filled with walnuts and covered in syrup and a  Cevizli Kadayif (RO 1.800) a similar item topped with milk. I thought that both were nice, but a bit too rich and probably too much to have for two people.

In total we ordered 1 starter, 2 mains, 2 desserts and 2 drinks. Our bill came to RO 23.760.

I thought that the service at Lokanta was great, the staff seemed to be generally friendly and our food did not take too long to arrive.

I enjoyed my time at Lokanta, I liked the atmosphere and the food was good!

Have you guys been to Lokanta? What do you think of it?
