Hayat’s Restaurant – Al Qurum

As a healthy food blogger, I wanted to try out something closer to what I eat every day, so after hearing about Hayat’s Restaurant for a while, I decided to give it a go one Saturday afternoon. It is really difficult to find delicious and healthy food in Oman, so I was eager to try the food Hayat’s Restaurant would be serving. Hayat’s restaurant is located on Sayh Al Malih Street next door to Sauce Kitchen in Al Qurum. If you are heading towards PDO you pass this group of restaurants block in which Hayat’s Restaurant is among them.

Looking at the interior of the restaurant, it is decorated very tastefully with beautiful seating in a spacious room. We were greeted warmly by our waiter and were handed a menu and an iPad. I guess some of the dishes were not on the menu so it was supplemented with an iPad. I’m not fond of this way of ordering (Can’t we just stick to menus?) but maybe I’m a tad old school; I would have preferred one or the other.

I was surprised at the variety of the menu and the dishes looked absolutely delicious! I would have preferred healthier options in the drink section though; there were a little too many fizzy drinks that didn’t really go with their concept. After debating for a while we ordered the Buffalo Cauliflower (2.800 OMR) as a starter, Hamour with Green Sauce (5.500 OMR) and the Chicken Quinoa Salad (2.900 OMR) and two banana milkshakes (2.500 OMR) for drinks.

I liked the kid-friendliness of this place because as soon as we sat down, they brought crayons and a coloring book for my 2-year-old daughter. She was ecstatic! The service at Hayat’s was above average and the owner of the restaurant came to our table to check on us before and after the food – which was a plus.

The Buffalo Cauliflower came out first and I really liked it. It was spicy but it came with this white sauce that managed to cool it down a bit. I would order this dish again.

It was followed by our drinks, which were typical good banana milkshakes.

Next came the Chicken Quinoa Salad. I liked this dish, it was filled with lettuce, quinoa, chicken and pomegranate seeds in a light sauce. However, I feel it could have benefited with a bit more of the dressing to give it more of a flavor punch as there was quite a bit of quinoa. I would order it again but ask them to put a bit more dressing on it.

The Hamour dish then came out and I felt like the fish was cooked to perfection. Delicious, moist and very flavorful, I felt this was a dish I would order again, too. It could have benefited from a bit more salt but other than that, perfection in a dish!

The total bill for all of the dishes came out to 16.910 OMR.  All in all, I would give an A to the food. I think Hayat’s Restaurant was very successful in their concept of “Changing the way you think about fast food in that it can be healthy.” I commend them for bringing something healthy and new to Oman and not another typical burger place that seems to be in abundance here. I would definitely visit again when I want a healthy option eating out and I would recommend it to others.
