GBK (Gourmet Burger Kitchen) is British burger chain with a branch in Oman in Muscat City Center (Telephone: 2455 8065 – Map). I reviewed it last year and I wasn’t exactly its biggest fan, but they introduce a number of new items on its menu sometime recently so I thought I’ll go give it another shot.
GBK is quite a spacious restaurant on the ground floor of MCC right under the stairs coming down from Emax. Even though MCC can get quite busy, GBK never seemed to be able to attract a lot of attention, so it is almost always quiet regardless of the time you go at.
The new menu of GBK has a section for “New Edition Burgers”, Sliders, and Classic Burgers along with other mains and sides that GBK offers. For the starter we decided to go for the Triple Sampler (RO 4.600) which had glazed chicken wings, cheese fingers, and fried onion rings, and it came with three different dips. The chicken wings were really great, the cheese fingers were alright, but I wasn’t a big fan of the onion rings. The portion was big and could be shared with a group of people.
For the main course I had a New Edition Gourmet Dynamite Burger (RO 2.700) which was made up of a a black angus beef patty, swiss cheese, jalapeños, lettuce, online, tomato, and chilli sauce. GBK offers all New Edition as in single patty or double patty, I only tried the single patty which I thought was more than enough. I thought that my burger was alright, but a bit too spicy for me. My friend had a Mushroom Swiss burger from the new edition section (RO 2.700) which he enjoyed quite a bit.
For the dessert we shared a Red Velvet Cake (RO 2.500) which seemed stale and not very good.
For the drinks we both had a Raspberry & Mint Lemonade (RO 1.600), which tasted quite funny. I don’t think there was anything wrong with the drink, but I just didn’t like it.
In total, we ordered 1 starter, 2 burgers, 1 dessert, 2 drinks, and 1 small bottle of water. Our bill came to a total of RO 17.700.
I thought that the service at GBK was lacking, we ordered single patty burgers and we got double instead, so they had to take them back and take one patty out. They also brought the burgers too soon before we got a chance to finish our starter. The waiters didn’t seem concerned with the customers and were walking around without looking at what people needed, so we had to wait for a very long time to get someone to get us the bill even though the place was empty.
I thought that the food was OK, but the dessert and drinks weren’t really that good.
I don’t think I had a great time during my visit to GBK and not sure if I can recommend this place. Have you guys been here, what do you think of it?
