Shakespeare and Co (Telephone: 2418 1363 | Map ) is a restaurant and shisha lounge at the commercial area of The Wave, Muscat right next to Shang Thai and Pizza Express. Shakespeare and Co is an Emarati chain that is found all over the UAE, but has only one branch in Oman here in The Wave.
I just came from my worst restaurant experience ever in Oman. I have not been to Pizza Hut in years, but my sisters suggested that we try one of their new desserts, so we ended up in Pizza Hut Sohar a bit before 9.30pm.
We only ordered the dessert, a large bottle of water, and a glass of Pepsi. Our order was taken by a Omani guy named Bader. After waiting for a whole 30 minutes the dessert came to us totally melted and cold, Bader dropped it and left without even giving us spoons to eat it with. I called him asking to change the dessert because it is cold and reminded him that we did not get our water or Pepsi. He took the dessert without apologizing or saying anything at all. We waited and waited, and after reminding him again about the water, he brought it without the Pepsi. At around 10.10pm Bader brought the dessert to our table and asked in a sarcastic tone if it was hot enough for us. We still had no spoons.
At that point we decided that we are leaving the restaurant. I went to the person who was in charge, a Omani dude at the cashier, and told him that we are leaving because even after 40 minutes our simple order isn’t complete and that Bader was extremely rude about it… and we left!
I have to admit it that I cannot lie to myself and say that I was expecting to get a first class service from a Pizza Hut, but it was ridiculous how incompetent AND RUDE the waiter Bader was.
I advise all the readers of the Omani Cuisine to not take crap from any restaurant. The only way service in Oman is going to improve is by not accepting substandard food and service.
It was clearly a mistake going to Pizza Hut and I’ll make sure that I do not do that again.
Italiano (Telephone: 2418 0515 – Map) is a pizzeria located on The Wave Road in Al Mawaleh. If you are coming from Al Bahja, you need to drive all the way to the Wave Roundabout and then turn back to find Italiano in the same building as a Subway on the right side of the road. The parking situation on this road is pathetic, but on both of my two visits to Italiano I always managed to find a lot of easily accessible empty spots on the interlock in front of the restaurant.
Grand Lounge Turkish Cuisine (Telephone: 2439 1681- Map) in Al Khuwair is a new branch of the same Grand Lounge restaurant in Ruwi. The Al Khuwair branch of Grand Lounge is located right next to S&H Chocolate Lounge between Ibis hotel and Muscat Holiday. Even though this is another branch of the same restaurant, Al Khuwair branch has as different menu from that served in Ruwi.
Al Mukhtar (Telephone: 2448 6222 | Map) is a Lebanese restaurant located in Al Khuwair 33. If you are coming from Said bin Taimur Mosque and going towards the Higher College of Technology, you need to drive to the T-junction and turn right, then drive all the way down until you see Al Mukhtar restaurant on the left side of the road.
Elevation Burger (Map) is a new fast casual organic burger diner located on the first floor of Muscat Grand Mall right next to Paul. I recently tried it at a pre-launch event. The restaurant is expected to open next week on the 24th of June.
Al Mandoos Restaurant (Telephone: 9691 1140 – Map) is a new Omani restaurant by Chef Issa Al Lamki located in Al Ghubra somewhere behind the Porsche showroom. If you are coming down from the Al Ghubra bridge and going towards the Chedi, you need to go right at the first traffic lights and pass by Bank Muscat and Fawaris Bakery. You will then need to take one of the left turns on that road to find Al Mandoos Restaurant on a short stretch of shops parallel to the service road. Continue reading »
