Restaurant Asia (Telephone: 2477 6565 – Map) at the Shangri La is bringing chefs from the Shangri La Chiang Mai to offer a special Thai menu for the next two weeks. The limited time Thai special has a RO 25 set menu and an a la carte menu that offers appetisers, rice and noodles, mains, and desserts. Asia would not be serving any items from its normal menu for the next two weeks with exception of dimsums and sushi. During this visit we were served a special opening set menu that differs a little bit from the standard set menu.
Wasabi Sushi is a sushi restaurant located in Bareeq Al Shatti (Telephone: 2469 9490) directly opposite of B+F Roadside Diner. We reviewed it a few years ago, but thought we’ll just do another review for it.
The Manhattan Fish Market (Telephone: 2449 9102 | Map) is an American style seafood chain that recently opened its first branch in Oman in Al Athaiba. The Al Athaiba branch is located next the last traffic lights on the 18th November Street right before the airport. It is almost literally right next to the traffic lights on the main street and cannot be missed.
We have previously published a review of Shakespeare & Co in the Wave Muscat (Telephone: 2418 1363 | Map), we thought we’ll do another one specifically for breakfast. The menu of Shakespeare & Co is pretty extensive as may already know. This same menu has a section dedicated for breakfast dishes, another one for eggs, crepes, and one of serving Lebanese “saj” bread.
The Beach Restaurant is located in the Chedi Hotel in Al Ghubrah (Telephone: 2452 4400 | Map). The Chedi has a few restaurants and the Beach Restaurant is the one found on the: beach! Though the names of the restaurants in the Chedi are generic (the Restaurant and the Beach Restaurant), the menu of each restaurant is different from the other. Continue reading »

I just came from my worst restaurant experience ever in Oman. I have not been to Pizza Hut in years, but my sisters suggested that we try one of their new desserts, so we ended up in Pizza Hut Sohar a bit before 9.30pm.
We only ordered the dessert, a large bottle of water, and a glass of Pepsi. Our order was taken by a Omani guy named Bader. After waiting for a whole 30 minutes the dessert came to us totally melted and cold, Bader dropped it and left without even giving us spoons to eat it with. I called him asking to change the dessert because it is cold and reminded him that we did not get our water or Pepsi. He took the dessert without apologizing or saying anything at all. We waited and waited, and after reminding him again about the water, he brought it without the Pepsi. At around 10.10pm Bader brought the dessert to our table and asked in a sarcastic tone if it was hot enough for us. We still had no spoons.
At that point we decided that we are leaving the restaurant. I went to the person who was in charge, a Omani dude at the cashier, and told him that we are leaving because even after 40 minutes our simple order isn’t complete and that Bader was extremely rude about it… and we left!
I have to admit it that I cannot lie to myself and say that I was expecting to get a first class service from a Pizza Hut, but it was ridiculous how incompetent AND RUDE the waiter Bader was.
I advise all the readers of the Omani Cuisine to not take crap from any restaurant. The only way service in Oman is going to improve is by not accepting substandard food and service.
It was clearly a mistake going to Pizza Hut and I’ll make sure that I do not do that again.
Italiano (Telephone: 2418 0515 – Map) is a pizzeria located on The Wave Road in Al Mawaleh. If you are coming from Al Bahja, you need to drive all the way to the Wave Roundabout and then turn back to find Italiano in the same building as a Subway on the right side of the road. The parking situation on this road is pathetic, but on both of my two visits to Italiano I always managed to find a lot of easily accessible empty spots on the interlock in front of the restaurant.
