Everyone has a story to tell about Omantel’s horrible service, here is my most recent one. I applied for an ADSL connection exactly one month ago, I was told by the showroom staff that my area is fully wired and I should get my connection in a couple days. Fast-forward 30 days, several phone calls to the call center, two additional visits to the showroom, and I still have no idea when my connection will be installed.
A staffer told me that all connections take at least three weeks before they get installed, another staffer told that all connections get installed within a period of one to three weeks. The call center has declared that it has nothing to offer me and I have to go see the showroom for help, the showroom told me that they cannot do anything for me and all I have to do is wait. I have never received a call, a message or anything from Omantel to tell when to expect my line to be installed.
I swear I would not go to a company with such a horrible service if I had another option, I live in a Wimax red zone, so Wimax has not been good with me at all.
Some of you know that the Omani Cuisine was recently a victim of a hacking attack and I am working on getting the theme back up, but with no proper internet connection at home it seems that this might take a bit longer than necessary.
Thank you Omantel for wasting my time.

We have been working on the Omani Cuisine mobile app as a side project for a while and it is now officially ready! The iPhone and Android Omani Cuisine app is a simple directory for restaurants in Muscat, you can use it to look to search for restaurants we have reviewed, get their phone numbers and check their location on the map.
You can download the iPhone version of the app from this link:
This is the first time we ever make something like this, so please share with us any comments, suggestions, or problems you have with the application!
I am doing an interview for the Omani Talents show on Merge 104.8 radio station this upcoming Friday the 8th of July. Tune in to Merge 104.8 to hear me speak about the Omani Cuisine between 7pm to 9pm Muscat Time. You can stream the show live from Merge 104.8 website here.
I have to admit that I was a bit nervous about the ice cream crawl, but you know what guys, WE DID IT! Eight ice cream places in seven hours, from Seeb to Ruwi, across four malls, one business center, and a ghetto. In total we were 18 crawlers, 3 children, and 2 babies! We lost count of the number of scoops consumed in total, but you know it was A LOT.

The Omani Cuisine knows that there is no better cure to the crazy heat of the summer than some delicious cold ice cream, and to help our lovely readers pick the best ice cream place in Muscat, the Omani Cuisine decided to go on a mission next week to have ice cream at all the major ice cream places in town in one single day – we will try them out, compare their offerings, and decide by the end of the day which place serves the best ice cream!
The Ice Cream Crawl will take place on Sunday the 29th of May and its program will be as follows:
- 3.00pm to 3.45pm – Pinkberry – Muscat City Center
- 3.45pm to 4.15pm – Baskin Robins – Muscat City Center
- 4.30pm to 5.15pm – Tropical – BankMuscat HQ
- 5.30pm to 6.15pm – Dream Cone – Zakher Mall
- 6.30pm to 7.15pm – Il Gelato di Bruno – Oasis by the Sea
- 7.30pm to 8.00pm – Marble Slab Creamery – Qurum City Center
- 8.00pm to 9.00pm – Cold Stone – Qurum City Center
- 9.15pm to 9.45pm – Softy – Ruwi
In hope of making a fair and proper judgement of the ice creams we have on this crawl, the Omani Cuisine has sought the professional assistance of former Forbes Journalist Stephanie Dahl who will be featured heavily as a guest blogger on this mission.
All of our readers are welcome to come cheer for us (and have some ice cream) at any of the places shown in the program above at the timings indicated. It would be fun to meet you guys in person and learn about what you consider to be the best ice cream in town!
You can RSVP to attend the Ice Crawl on Facebook here.
Fortunately the dispute between Best Burger and the Omani Cuisine has come to a close. Best Burger sent me an email today saying that they have no intention of taking legal action, that they have decided to take the matter in a constructive manner and that they would be looking forward to have me come visit them again to experience the changes they make in the future.
I would like to wish Best Burger the best of luck and I will be looking forward to see how they move positively forward.
